IS THE THAI KING CONNECTED TO THAI POLICE GENERAL'S MEETING WITH WANTED CAMBODIAN CYBERSCAM CRIMINAL?
In most countries the top senior police officers only achieve their position after decades of hard work, passing all the usual exams and formal tests and completing huge amounts of training.
Not Thai Police Lt General Bhuridej.
He was granted the express elevator to a senior role not due to competence, an understanding of ethics and a proven ability to uphold the law without fear or favor.
Bhuridej got his job because both he and his family has proven themselves to be obsequious grovelling servants to the Thai King, Rama X.
As the BBC put it in their profile of the Bhuridej family
"On October 1, 2020, Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirapop was appointed Deputy Commander of the Central Investigation Bureau by royal decree, after serving as Commander of the Crime Suppression Division for only two years."
But there's more lurking Jirapop's "illustrious" career advancement.
Back in Feb 2021 the BBC reported that two Thai MPs from the Move Forward Party (MFP) raised the issue of what was termed the "Elephant Ticket" regarding illegal payments and connections to "powerful figures" allowing police officers to advance their careers.
One of the MPs was immediately shouted down by an MP from the far-right military junta linked Palang Pracharath Party and told "Do not mention the monarchy". This MP, Rangsiman Rome, was then investigated under Thailand's notoriously draconian 112 lese majeste law, a law which UN Human Rights' bodies have repeatedly asked to be completely repealed.
Undeterred the MFP MPs continued and explicitly named Jirapop Bhuridej as one of the officers who had benefited from unusually quick career progression.
The connection was as about as explicit as it could be. If you criticize Jirapop Bhuridej's career you are criticizing the monarchy.
So, what about Jirapop's friendly get together with a US Sanctioned Cambodian cyber criminal?
Does that too have the approval of the Thai King?
